URBAN eat Blog of the month: The Kitchen Shed

Here at URBAN eat we don’t just write blogs, we also scout the internet to find some interesting and unique blogs. We enjoy reading what other people have to say about food, we like to gain inspiration from other people’s creativity, and we love to stumble upon new blogs that immediately make us want to click the ‘follow’ button. We don’t want to keep these finds to ourselves though, so every month we’ll be picking our favourite blogger of the month, and sharing it with our readers!

With so many to choose from, we wanted to start with one that is close to our hearts, as we get ready to launch our new healthy range: eat better.

The Kitchen Shed is all about clean eating, sharing recipes, tips, lunchtime inspiration, meal plans and shopping lists. If you’re looking to kick start your healthy eating lifestyle without compromising on taste, then the Kitchen Shed is a blog to follow and get inspiration from. The images look really appetising, and the recipes aren’t hard to follow, even if you’re somewhat of a novice.

We got in touch with the author, Charlie, and asked her a couple of questions to find out more about this blog. Here’s what she had to say:

  1. What inspired you to start your blog?

I have always had an interest in eating whole foods and over the years have followed several American clean eating recipe blogs, but I struggled to source some ingredients which meant that I was unable to make a lot of their recipes. Since there was no specific general clean eating blog in the UK I decided to start my own. The Kitchen Shed is for real people, real families on real budgets looking to eat real food. It is the food that I make for my family every day and I wanted to share that with people who had been in the same situation as me, looking for clean eating recipe ideas in the UK.

  1. Where do you find inspiration for recipes?

I like to take classic British family meals and clean them up. It’s the kind of food that people eat every day and I like to make these meals as nutritious as possible whilst keeping them simple, budget friendly and child friendly.

  1. What is your favourite recipe in your blog and why?

Probably any of my homeade nākd bar recipes. They are so quick and easy to make and are perfect for busy people on the go. Whenever I have a craving for something sweet they always hit the spot, especially the pecan pie flavour. I often find my 2 year old sneaking them from the fridge.

  1. What would be your dream destination regarding food?

Somewhere in Europe I think. I love that each country seems to have a completely different food culture. Italy would be an amazing place to visit.

  1. What was your most spectacular kitchen fail?

There have been so many! I once made a salmon chow mein. It was an experiment and I honestly thought it would taste good but it was pretty awful. My husband had a takeaway that night.
