Superfoods For Students

In the busy life of a University student, you just don’t have time to cook. With all of the studying, reading and socializing to do, whipping up a Nigella-esque meal for dinner is the last thing on your mind. You need something that’s quick and easy to create, but nutritious all at the same time – and, unfortunately your favourite meal of beans with cheese on toast doesn’t quite tick all of those boxes…

But, there’s another reason why you should try and eat foods that do tick all of the boxes – because believe it or not, beating the right foods could help you to concentrate better in your lectures (that would be a God send, right?), help you to be less tired (double God send), and could even help you to get over that pesky hangover from the night before a little bit quicker (now if this isn’t a student God send, then I don’t know what is).

So, in order to try to help you tick every single one of those boxes, here’s a little guide to a few ultimate super foods that are perfect for students (and what’s more, you can buy most of them ready prepared straight from the shop! Perfect!)

Wholegrains
Your mum’s always going on about choosing a sandwich made of brown bread is much better for your health, but surely she can’t be that right about it? Well, I hate to say it, but she is. Whole grain foods such as brown bread and pasta are not only a great way to protect against things like diabetes and heart disease, but they’re also great for helping your concentration. How exactly? Well, whole grain foods help to regulate glucose levels in the blood – and the more regular your glucose levels are, the easier it is to concentrate!

Yoghurt

Whether you’re a fresher or not, it’s probably quite likely that you’ve fallen victim to that pesky old thing called ‘fresher’s flu’ at some point this year. But as well as striking the newbies, fresher’s flu (or any flu for that matter!) is prone to striking those that aren’t eating properly. So, eating the right things in order to strengthen those all-important immune barriers is key. A super food that helps to do just that is yoghurt. Yoghurt contains live cultures that strengthen the body’s immune system in order to fight off those pesky fresher’s flu germs! So, whether you decide to incorporate some yoghurt into your breakfast in the morning (or afternoon…), or whether you pick an URBAN eat yoghurt on your mad dash between lectures, having a little bit a day is sure to help and keep that pesky fresher’s flu away.

Salmon

In my opinion, salmon is completely underrated when it comes to its goodness as a super food – particularly from a student’s point of view. Why, exactly? Well because thanks to its essential amino acids, salmon is great food for your brain and has been proven to improve your memory. So, as next time you’re doing a library all-nighter in order to try and cram for that dreaded summer exam, pick up an URBAN eat smoked salmon & soft cheese to try and stimulate those brain cells!
