The Super Sarnie!

The sandwich… Made with one of the oldest prepared foods, which is also the ultimate part of our staple diet… BREAD! Bread in itself has infinite combination possibilities, from the different flours, seeds, oats and even fruits.

Bread comes in an array of shapes, sizes, types and textures, and is available all around the world. It can also be served at any meal of the day in different forms, or even eaten as a snack. Bread also has cultural and religious connotations.

Enough about the bread… what we are here to celebrate is the sandwich!

Almost half of us eat at least one sandwich a week, and as a nation we are obsessed with food, but we are not the only ones… Food is our worldwide guilty pleasure, which can be seen from the amount of food programs on the popular Food Network Channel. There are now a wide variety of shows, including: Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, Man Vs Food, as well as Adam Richman’s new show, Adam Richman’s Best Sandwich in America

“Every culture has a sandwich; every income bracket has a sandwich; it just seemed to be the most universal food element for a show… a primary language that we all speak.” Says Adam.

You can put just about anything between two slices of bread, and almost everything tastes better this way. There are some great, and inventive ways to enjoy this great treat, here are some of our favourites:

Fried Egg, Avocado, Bacon & Tomato Sandwich.
Bacon Guacamole Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Roast Beef Sandwich with Caramelized Onions and Grainy Mustard, Horseradish Mayo
Spicy Peanut Chicken Grilled Cheese Sandwich
New York Deli Style Pastrami & Monterey Jack Cheese
The classic tuna melt

Be creative, and make the most of what you have in your cupboards. Still not sure? You can’t argue with the King… Elvis that is! It has been recorded and it has been told, that one of Elvis’ most favourite foods was the peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich. This is one sandwich not to mess with, it is pure succulent heaven. To create this wondrous delight, you must toast the bread, add the fillings, and add lashings of honey. It has been said that he also cooked the sandwich in bacon fat or butter, just to add a little more edge of course.

The super sarnie, is not just a thing of beauty… it is a sign of hope.
