Kerri’s blog: Sandwich Selfie winner in New York

Rebecca: We’’ve got a guest blogger in today, our Sandwich Selfie winner, Kerri Bogues. She’’s returned from her trip to New York so we’’ve got her to write up her experience!

New York, New York, so good they named it twice – and this is no exaggeration from my experience! Thanks to Urban Eat, my sister and I were arriving into New York City and driving towards the Big Apple, and we could already feel the excitement in the air as New Years was fast approaching.

Times Square was packed out as we pulled up to our hotel on the 30th December, however even this was nothing compared to what we saw the next day. Thousands descended on the landmark from as early as 10am to catch a glimpse of the ball drop at midnight, and the concierge told us almost 1 million in total would have been gathered there by the end of the night! The buzz in the air was amazing to experience and the atmosphere created by people from across the world standing together to see in the New Year was second to none. Especially lucky for me, my boyfriend is actually from New York as is my sister’s best friend who also lives there, so we were able to see in the New Year together instead of on different sides of the world. It truly was a magical experience being in New York City during the Christmas and New Year’’s festivities.

The famous Christmas tree stood tall at Rockefeller Centre bringing smiles to everyone looking upon its sparkly lights, and Saks Fifth Avenue was as glitzy and glamorous as I expected it to be. After sundown, they put on a lights show accompanied by everyone’s favourite Christmas tunes every 5 minutes, creating a brilliant atmosphere. What was perhaps one of the most incredible experiences of the trip however was the helicopter tour included as part of the prize.

Taking off from beside Brooklyn Bridge, we circled the Statue of Liberty before heading up the Hudson River seeing the impressive Freedom Tower up close, and taking in more great sights such as the Empire State Building and Central Park. The entire experience was once in a lifetime and I feel so lucky that thanks to the generosity of Urban Eat, and through the taking of more than just a couple of Sandwich Selfies, we were able to spend New Year’’s in a way like no other and truly bring in 2015 with a bang!

And she couldn’’t resist taking another sandwich selfie on the plane! Thanks Kerri!
