Celebrity Birthday Bashes

Celebrities really do seem to have it all, don’t they?  Pots of cash, access to some of the best clubs and restaurants in the land, and they get given free clothes and shoes to wear.  How unfair is that??

However, as my old mum always says…money can’t buy style, and this would certainly seem to be the case when you look at some of the weird and wonderful birthday celebrations celebrities have thrown in the past.

Here are a few of our best, most expensive, crazy, celebrity birthday bashes of all time.

Simon Cowell’s 50th

Simon Cowell’s 50th birthday party has got to go down in history as one of the most vain get-togethers ever conceived.

Guests arriving were greeted with an enormous image of the high-waisted wonder projected across the palladian frontage.  In addition, the waiters wore Simon Cowell masks, the tablecloths featured his face, there was a framed picture of him in every toilet…even the wallpaper in the venue featured his image.

Total cost – £1 million

P Diddy’s 40th

You only turn 40 once, which is why P Diddy decided to splash out on a lavish star-studded event to celebrate reaching this landmark age.

The theme for the evening was ‘Garden of Eden’ and the event was held in the Grand Ballroom of the iconic Plaza Hotel.  Guests were ordered to wear black and white, and the venue was decorated with over $30,000 worth of orchids.  Other ‘subtle’ touches to the evening included a performance by legendary soul singer Al Green, a maze and several fashion-shows held throughout the night.

Total Cost – $3 million

Sir Elton John’s 60th

No one could ever accuse Sir Elton John of doing things by halves, and it would seem that birthday celebrations offer the excuse to take things to another level.

The average 60 year olds party is held in a village hall or community centre and is a chance for few other oldies to get together for a knees up to ‘Agadoo’.

This was never going to be good enough for our Elt’ though!

The self confessed ‘King of Extravagance’ held his 60th in the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York – the largest gothic church in the world.  450 of his closest friends were treated to Elton dressed up as a Russian General, 2,000 bottles of pink champagne and entertainment courtesy of the scissor sisters.

Guests left the party with goody bags filled with Chopard jewellery, a Versace gift token and a special adventure day out voucher.  Wow.

Total cost – £1 million

If you think you could do better than these oldies, then why not tell us what sort of party you would spend £5K on, for the chance to win the ULTIMATE birthday bash.
