We’ve all done it. Opened the fridge desperate to find something to eat for lunch, and just thrown together whatever was there. Ham? Bread? Butter? Yeah, it’ll do. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s just a bit, well, samey. Nobody wants to be eating the same thing over and over again, so as part of URBAN eat’s ongoing mission to liven up lunchtimes across the country, we’ve put together our top five tried and tested lunches and tips on how to turn them into exciting gastronomical experiences!
1. The (Chicken, Cheese or Ham) Sandwich
The humble sarnie is everybody’s best friend – the easy snack we can always rely on to fill us up and satisfy our palate.
Chicken, cheese and ham are the most popular fillings, but well let’s be honest they’re not the most exciting of options now are they – at least when they’re just thrown between a couple of slices of wholemeal!
Part of our mission here at URBAN eat is to put the ‘zing’ back into amazing lunches, and we have created some awesome sandwiches using the nation’s favourite fillings. The Chicken, Chorizo & Chilli Jam should certainly be able to do that. Have you tried it?

2. The Simple Salad

Next up is the simple salad, but don’t just face a bowl of leafy greens for lunch covered in dressing because that’s not very exciting now is it?
We want to make sure you pick up those extra health points without having to sacrifice on flavour or creativity, so make sure you pick up one of our salads from our Eat Better range. A great place to start is our Hot Smoked Salmon Salad which is high in Omega 3 and very tasty!
3. The (Tomato or Vegetable) Soup

I feel this lunch choice is most common in winter – and it’s a good choice at that!
Tomato soup or a vegetable soup are popular choices and I’m often partial to a warm bowl of soup with a helping of warm buttered bread… It’s often the simple things in life that make you the happiest and in this case it’s food. Let’s face it though, a bowl of soup is not the most exciting of lunches, so why not complement it with our No Fuss Cheese sandwich?

4. Pasta Salad

Next up is pasta, specifically a pasta salad. These are so popular because you can chuck pretty much anything in with pasta and call it a pasta salad. However, pasta can be pretty bland, so it’s important to add the right ingredients when making or buying lunch.
If you were to buy one it’d most likely be a tomato-based pasta (because let’s face it, tomato and pasta is a match made in heaven!) We tried to spice up the traditional tomato pasta with the creation of our Spicy Chicken Pasta which includes chicken and has a nice fiery kick to it. Perfect to liven up your lunch.
5. The Wrap

The next choice is the wrap, often filled with more varieties than you would find in your standard sandwich. It’s often a tough choice choosing what to go for however if you’re between a salad and a wrap – pick up our Chicken Caesar wrap, that’s the best of both worlds.
6. The Microwaved Meal

And lastly it’s the dreaded microwaved meal.
Microwaved meals have improved over the years, but they can still taste a bit bland and aren’t always very exciting. But you don’t have to buy those meals in plastic containers – you can try our Hot eats range – my favourite is the Ham & Cheese Croissant.
So maybe we’re a bit biased as we’ve featured some of our URBAN eat products in this blog post but we truly believe that we can make lunch time more exciting for you! So don’t settle for the same lunch every day, be adventurous and try something new!
