6 Great Food Combinations to Inspire Your Creativity

Welcome back to another foodie mash-up (or as I’d like to call it: Things I’d have never thought to put together)! I feel we need some sort of game show theme tune for this…

By now you should be fully aware that we at URBAN eat love food! And we love exploring and pushing those boundaries in flavour. Last month we brought you 6 weird food combinations that taste good, so let’s show you some more!

Fennel, Blood Orange & Hazelnut Salad

I thought this combo was pretty different compared to your usual salads, especially as I wouldn’t have thought to put this trio of ingredients together – maybe because I’m not as adventurous when it comes to salad making.  Still, it’s looking pretty tasty and those colours give it a nice vibrant feel. Who knew oranges could be put into a salad!? Recipe here.

Peanut Butter & Apples

For a snack, whether it be mid-morning, mid-afternoon or that well-known midnight rummage through the fridge. I’m partial to the occasional slice of peanut butter and banana on toast! However, move over ‘nanas because we’ve got a new pairing with peanut butter and the humble apple taking centre stage! The saltiness of the peanut butter and the sweetness of the apple is indeed a match made in heaven!

Sweet Potato & Avocado Burgers (Vegan)

When we think of burgers, the idea of McDonald’s comes to mind or those really juicy burgers that you get at restaurants which specialise in them. But hold your horses – we shouldn’t just appreciate those kinds of burgers; this combo of sweet potato and avocado seems to have gone down a treat on the website that I got this from. Check it out and read the comments here.

Peaches, Basil, Avocado & Balsamic Vinegar (Vegan)

Never would I have thought to put peaches in a wrap, let alone with avocado, basil and balsamic vinegar. But I suppose you do get strawberries with balsamic vinegar too so this kind of makes sense.  Fancy trying this combo? Get the recipe here.

Avocado & Spinach Ice Cream (Vegan)

So this happened…? As I’ve mentioned before in my Top 10 Favourite Film Food Moments, I’m a big fan of my two favourite guys Ben & Jerry– but this seems to be way more interesting to me at the moment (sorry fellas!). I’m also aware that avocado does taste fantastic with chocolate too… but yeah… Avocado ice cream. I dig it. Plus, it’s made with coconut milk and that’s a winner in my book.

Tomato, Beetroot, Strawberry & Cherry Smoothie

I couldn’t leave this post without focusing on something to drink. Check out this Tomato, Beetroot, Strawberry and Cherry smoothie. This must be right on trend considering beetroot in drinks is all the rage right now. Recipe is here.

So these are my food combinations to inspire creativity a.k.a. things that I never would’ve put together – what are your favourite food combos out of the ordinary?
